UKTI Event – International Trade is Key to Growth – Tharsus Group – November 10, 2014
Hosted by North East Chairman of the Institute of Directors, Graham Robb, the event included an Export Panel Discussion featuring business and export specialists from UKTI, North East Chamber of Commerce and Square One Law.
Advanced manufacturing company Tharsus Group and the Institute of Directors helped UK Trade & Investment open Export Week in the North East with a special event highlighting the successes and challenges of trading internationally.
Attendees, including representatives from companies around the region, heard from Tharsus Chief Executive Brian Palmer about how the company exports more than 40 percent of its goods around the world to locations such as Lebanon and China.
Tharsus Group is an Original Equipment Design and Manufacture (OEDM) specialist, which has invested in a 31,000 sq ft manufacturing facility in Blyth following a £3 million investment. The company works closely with customers to develop products, a significant proportion of which are exported to countries such as Italy, Spain and Germany and further afield to locations such as Lebanon and China.
OEDM is an evolution of the traditional contract manufacturing mode where Tharsus works with companies looking to grow, improve or diversify their product portfolio.
The company take responsibility for part or all of the process from concept design, development and prototyping, technology integration and supply chain management through to final assembly and serial manufacture.
Chief Executive, Brian Palmer, who was the 2013 IoD North East Investor Director of the Year, formerly worked at Nissan before leading an MBI of a small sheet metal business, which has evolved into Tharsus Group.
