Blyth-based original equipment design and manufacturer Tharsus Group has been shortlisted for two prestigious Institution of Mechanical Engineers’ Manufacturing Excellence Awards.

Tharsus Shortlisted for Manufacturing Excellence Awards

The company is in line to be named Best Small and Medium–sized Enterprise (SME) and is also shortlisted in the People Effectiveness category, which looks at approach, processes and policies to support its skilled workforce.

Tharsus will now be visited by assessors before being judged during the summer. Winners will be announced at a prestigious ceremony on Tuesday 30 September at WMG, University of Warwick.

Brian Palmer, CEO of Tharsus Group, said: “We are delighted with the double recognition from IMechE. It’s the latest accolade for our hard-working team and really underlines our commitment to the sort of high standards that the Institution demands.

“This is another proud day for Tharsus and all the attention we are getting just makes us more determined to drive forwards and keep on setting those high standards.”

These nominations are the latest recognition of the quality of the company’s operations.

They follow Tharsus being named Best SME at the latest Best Factory Awards run by Cranfield School of Management – less than 18 months after its new full product manufacturing facility opened and completing its transformation from back-street metal basher to pioneering leader in the Original Equipment Design and Manufacture sector.

OEDM is an evolution of the traditional contract manufacturing mode where Tharsus works with companies looking to grow, improve or diversify their product portfolio.

The company take responsibility for part or all of the process from concept design, development and prototyping, technology integration and supply chain management through to final assembly and serial manufacture.

The Manufacturing Excellence Awards programme has been helping UK manufacturing companies improve for over 30 years.

Christopher Simpson, Chairman of the awards executive, said:  “The work of Tharsus demonstrates the huge skills, innovation and success in UK manufacturing.

“Apart from the opportunity to win a prestigious MX Award, it is also great to see Tharsus taking advantage of the free expert advice and benchmarking provided as part of the MX business improvement programme.”
