Tharsus’ aim to drive forward a new manufacturing sector, Original Equipment Design and Manufacture, has been recognised with their shortlisting in the Leadership and Strategy category of the Manufacturer of the Year awards.
This latest announcement follows on from shortlisting in the Cranfield Best Factory Awards and also CEO, Brian Palmer’s shortlisting in the IoD’s Director of the Year awards.
The business has transformed over the last five years and has come a long way from 2003 when Tharsus was proud to be a £1m t/o metal-basher.
It’s a transformation that’s all the more impressive given the impact of the economic downturn on key markets and structural changes that occurred as a result of the strategic defence review.
Now, as an Original Equipment Design and Manufacture (OEDM) business, Tharsus is developing and manufacturing innovative products and equipment for customers who boast a market-leading position or have a disruptive proposition that makes them well-placed for rapid and sustained growth.
Palmer explains, “Key to the implementation of our vision for the business was the recruitment and development of a strong management team, bringing with them considerable commercial and manufacturing experience and expertise gained in automotive and FMCG environments.”
“A ‘Vision into Action’ strategy is now live and we’re working hard to engage everyone in the business, so it’s very pleasing that this commitment has been recognised by the Manufacturer of the Year awards.”
“As the offshoring trend continues to reverse, we’re confident that we can offer significant advantages for customers by locating manufacturing close to design and development and, in addition, manufacturing close to the market to allow late customisation to meet country specific requirements and offer greater control and efficiency over inventory.”
