Trips, slips and falls can happen to anyone at any time, but the team at sheet metal fabrication specialist Tharsus’ factory in Glen Street, Hebburn are celebrating a superb 365 lost time accident-free days.
It’s an accomplishment that doesn’t happen by accident and has been the result of a focused effort on quality and continuous improvement across the business.
Operations Manager, Richard Larder is quick to praise the efforts of the team, “Everyone at the Hebburn site has made a real effort by making safety practices part of their daily activities. Staff input and awareness has been one of the big factors in achieving 365 days with no lost time incidents.”
“Our approach has been to concentrate on prevention rather than cure with ‘near misses’ and ‘hazards’ treated as seriously as an actual accident.”
“Not only has there been a noticeable shift in the health and safety culture of the business, but by identifying the fundamental cause of potential accidents, we’re able to implement robust counter measures for long term solutions.”
With a 50 year heritage in sheet metal design and fabrication, Tharsus CEO is delighted to have achieved this impressive milestone, “Every single employee at our Hebburn site should be congratulated for the role they have played. They have certainly set the bar high but I’m confident that we can achieve similar results at our Specialist Engineer site at Spencer Road and our Original Equipment Design and Manufacture facility at Cowley Road, both in Blyth.
