Fluorescent lighting of light boxes is and will remain for some time, the most efficient form of illumination for the outdoor advertising industry.

Financially, the purchase of lighting equipment is very low, requiring one or two ballasts and fluorescent tubes, and costs a fraction of all other lighting options.

Fluorescent tubes produce more light per watt of power than any other light source and can be seen thus;

Electroluminescent: 18 Lumens per watt
LED: 40 Lumens per watt
Fluorescent tubes (T8): 80 Lumens per watt
Fluorescent tubes (T5) up to 105 Lumens per watt
