Urban Taxi/Bus Shelters

Brief

To design a 6-sheet double sided, free standing illuminated advertising display unit that met the following criteria:

• Slim
• Met local street furniture legislation
• Low power consumption
• Virtually stripe free
• Edge to edge glazing
• Capable of withstanding harsh environmental conditions

Solution

Utilising our expertise in the design of aluminium extrusions and sheet metal fabrication, a unit was developed to augment existing and new shelter installations throughout Singapore. We had to recognise local technical requirements and legislation that included automatic isolation of the electrics once a door was opened.

Additionally, as the doors featured edge to edge glazing, the local regulations stipulated glazing clips to add security to the adhesive bonding. The materials and particularly the paint specifications were carefully chosen to ensure they withstood the harsh environments of high temperatures and humidity.

Using the patented "Reflex" diffusing system, we were able to light these units with two 70 watt florescent lamps saving some 40% power consumption over comparative products.
