Manufacturing Partner Tharsus Group Meets BAE Systems’ Urgent Requirements to Bring British Army Vehicles up to Standard

June 2009

Manufacturing partner Tharsus Group has successfully completed an urgent requirement for defence giant BAE Systems, bringing its Panther vehicles up to Theatre Entry Standard (TES). The vehicles have been chosen as the British Army’s command and liaison vehicles, and are also used by the Royal Air Force Regiment.

Project Background
In order to meet the strict Theatre Entry Standard (TES), BAE Systems needed a significant amount of fabricated assemblies and brackets to be manufactured initially within four weeks, with first deliveries required in less than a week. The brackets would allow additional equipment and protection to be attached to the army vehicles.

Process

Having produced a significant number of parts for the original Panther build program, Tharsus Group was chosen to bring the vehicles up to standard. The company was involved in all of the processing stages from start to finish: profiling, forming, machining, welding, painting and assembly.

The parts were manufactured from a range of materials, primarily aluminium. Tharsus Group’s team of dedicated and qualified personnel ensured all parts were certified to the required standard and fit for purpose.

The Result

Tharsus Group successfully met BAE’s component requirements and committed at short notice to working through the Christmas shutdown period. This ensured the parts were delivered in-line with the extremely tight program schedule, and the vehicles were ready to be shipped to theatre on the MOD required date.
