Innovate UK opens £140,000 smart cities contest
Innovate Uk has opened up applications for its IC tomorrow Programme, held in partnership with the TFL, Clear Channel Outdoor, Centro and Atkins, to find smart innovations to solve London’s biggest Problems.
Matt Sansam, lead technologist, digital economy and programme manager for IC tomorrow, said: “As the number of people choosing to live in cities around the world continues to rise, it is vital that we think about the future to make sure these urban spaces work to their full potential.
“Innovative digital technology has the power to provide solutions to ensure that our cities are effective and efficient for the users. This contest seeks out entrepreneurs and small businesses that can address some of the most pressing challenges our urban areas face.”

This £140k IC tomorrow contest seeks to encourage digital innovation which that improves cities at a human scale.
Are you a digital start-up or SME seeking funding?
We have four awards of up to £35k to fund the development of digital solutions solving challenges across urban spaces under the themes of engaging spaces, active citizenship and urban travel.
Ready to work with leading industry players?
It’s your chance to have your ingenuity in recognised and trialled by one of our challenge partners: Transport for London, Centro, Clear Channel and Atkins.
The winning companies will also benefit from support from the contest partners:
- The Future Cities Catapult will provide entry onto their SME programme and access to data, experts and exhibiton space.
- Peterborough City Council will enable relevant trials of Challenge Four as well as provide guidance about how technology solutions can be applied in a modern cities context.
