Northern Electric Distribution (NEDL)

We have a developed a track record in reverse engineering obsolete and legacy products. This lead our customer to approach us with a project to upgrade a range of legacy power transmission switchgear.

Client Problem

Our customer had won a contract to upgrade an installation of obsolete switchgear, which used a cast aluminium lock off door. They required 900 doors, making the tooling cost associated with a new casting economically unviable.

Tharsus Solution

Tharsus redesigned the door enabling it to be profiled on a CNC punch press and formed on a power press in two sections that were then TIG welded together and control arms attached. The door was then pre-treated and powder coated.

Result

Our customer's costs were significantly reduced, and the overall product functionality and appearance were improved.
