This has to be one of our most challenging architectural engineering jobs to date! The Arndale Centre in Manchester has been transformed by a £150 million redevelopment.
Over a number of years we have established our ability to deliver innovative and aesthetic solutions to retail design concepts. As an organisation we believe such projects provide an enjoyable challenge to our staff and a strong demonstration of our capabilities.
The design concept for the Christmas display required a 12m high mirror polished conical tree to be the centre piece.
It was to be installed on site within 16 weeks, and had to be offloaded and man handled through normal personnel doors, before being erected at night using a minimal amount of handling equipment.
As a result of these constraints the solution had to be light, and disassemble into small liftable sections.
We designed a 36 section lightweight aluminium skeleton to which a stressed 0.7mm thick stainless steel skin was attached.
Sections were pre-assembled four at a time on the ground and lifted into place where they were supported by a central prop. Tharsus personnel managed the assembly process.
We believe the pictures speak for themselves.
