London Underground

We produce a range of products that are used within the London underground (LUL) rail network: on trains, at stations and on platforms. These include:

Rafts for the mounting of transformers and electronics
Control system enclosures
LCD monitor casings
Plasma display enclosures

In order to enter this market we had to invest a considerable amount of time to develop a thorough understanding and knowledge of the material, welding and specialist finishes required to be LUL approved, meeting their strict safety and performance standards.

Client Problem

Our client won a contract to supply inverter units to the London Underground. This required a support structure and enclosure that met the strict structural, sealing and paint specifications required.

Tharsus Solution

Tharsus provided assistance at the product development stage to develop a cost effective and robust product. This included reducing the number of critical welds, the number of components and paint system advice.

Result

The 6KW Inverter Fabrication is now being supplied in line with a full quality plan including:

Full material and operator traceability
Coded welding of critical joints
Multi coat wet paint system
