Purpose of Position

Working within a small team of multi-disciplined engineers, the CAD engineer (Mechanical) will lead the document control, design and development of innovative sheet metal fabricated products.

Key Accountabilities

1.Responsible for the interpretation of customer requirements relating to mechanical systems within the product design

2.3D CAD – Use of 3D CAD to;

  • Create new product design based on previous variants
  • 3D model design revision and up issue
  • Drawing creation from 3D models
  • Jig and fixture development within 3D, with associated manufacturing drawings

3.2D CADCAM – generating 2D patterns from Customer data, working with the technical expert for flat pattern development. That means that he can interpret the 2D drawing data quicker to get the right answer. 3D CAD manipulation of data sent in 3D form, .stp, igs, or native

4.Estimating material and non-recurring engineering (NRE) costs within project timescales

5.Contribute to the identification of DFM opportunities, risks, quantification of risk impact and identification of mitigating actions

6.Prepare and co-ordinate technical documentation including: mechanical schematics, BOM’s, and reports

7.Communicate and present design ideas and solutions to senior colleagues and customers

8.Contribute to multiple projects at any one time liaising with the manufacturing team

9.Investigate, resolve internal and external non-conformances and implement robust counter measures to prevent re occurrences.

Job Holder Requirements

Education, Experience & Knowledge:

  • Degree or equivalent in Mechanical Engineering
  • Experience with AutoCAD Inventor is a preference
  • Knowledge of / experience with mechanical simulation packages e.g. ANSYS
  • Practical experience of designing and developing complete mechanical products as well as components
  • Experienced in CAD development of flat patterns, ideally using RADAN.
