Job Vacancy Senior Engineer – Design (Systems)

Purpose of Position

The Senior Engineer is responsible for ensuring the Design Engineering function/team is working as effectively and efficiently as possible through managing the technical activities and resources across a range of projects. The Senior Engineer will facilitate the team’s development, progression and performance management with all the relevant organisational support from the Design Manager.

Key Accountabilities

    1. Responsible for the delivery of Product design activities (primarily embedded systems) within their specific projects allocated to him/her to manage through their team
    2. In conjunction with the relevant Project Manager, provide the organisational focus and direction for projects, together with responsibility for the achievement of the project deliverables, ensuring products are successfully realised on time, on budget and with minimal risk
    3. In conjunction with the relevant Project Manager, responsible for adherence too and accurate reporting against the agreed project process for any given product
    4. In conjunction with the relevant Principal Engineer, responsible for product technical performance from initial concept through to serial production
    5. Promote and initiate the development, progression and performance management of their team members through business objective cascade in line with the Performance Management Process

Job-Holder Requirements

Education, Experience & Knowledge:

  • Degree or equivalent in Computer Science, Electronic Engineering or similar
  • Previous experience in a senior technical role
  • Previous experience in managing a team of engineers
  • Broad technical knowledge and background across a range of industries and technologies
  • Broad knowledge of business functions and systems and the ability to understand the commercial perspective
  • Ability to understand the broad design context as well as provide leadership in areas of detailed technical design.
